Garsten / Austria, 24th March 2020 – For the second time in a very short period, the CCE Group has commissioned the construction of a photovoltaic system in Chile. The 86 MWp system project called “Sol de Atacama” will produce an annual output of approx. 232,000 MWh on 162 hectares of land. It will be located in the Atacama Desert, near to the city of Diego de Almagro. Thanks to the highest solar irradiation globally and, consequently, the highest PV yield in the world, Chile is a strategically important country for the CCE Group. The country has optimal conditions to make a great contribution to the global energy transition.
With the CCE Group’s “Sol de Atacama” solar farm project, a further milestone has been reached in regard to the growing share of PV energy generation in Chile. “We are very proud to announce that within a very short period, we are starting yet another PV project in Chile,” say Martin Dürnberger and Martin Reitzig, who are both principal shareholders at the Clean Capital Energy (CCE) Group. “After the EPC contract was signed on 22nd January, the construction of “Sol de Atacama” will start in March 2020, and is expected to be completed by the end of 2021,” Dürnberger and Reitzig add.
The 162 hectare ground-mounted system will consist of a total of 196,000 glass-glass modules with single-axis tracking. The deployment of bifacial modules is planned in order to use the solar irradiation as efficiently as possible. Calculated on the basis of simulations, “Sol de Atacama”, with an installed output of 86 MWp, is designed to achieve an annual yield of 232,000 MWh.
The investment to the tune of over 60 million euros depicts the next successful step for the CCE Group’s corporate development. For it was only in November 2019 that construction began on the “La Huella” ground-mounted system project, which the CCE Group is currently building approx. 500 kilometres south of “Sol de Atacama”. Both systems are being implemented together with a further investor, a German pension fund.
